Welcome to HarryRunsTheMarathon.com

On Sunday 13th April 2008, McFly’s Harry Judd will take on his biggest challenge yet – running the Flora London Marathon.

Sponsor Harry Now!

He is supporting Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT) and The Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust (BIRT) and he needs your support to raise as much money as possible for these two incredible causes.

Why should you support Harry?

Well, we can think of a few reasons…

1. He took on a gruelling training regime at the same time as McFly were on tour. This meant spending all his spare time going running rather than chilling out.

2. It would be a really really nice thing to do.

3. The Marathon is not easy. Twenty six miles pounding the streets of London followed by weeks of aches, pains and blisters.

4. He is supporting two really good charities. One (Teenage Cancer Trust) is raising money to build a new unit in Cambridge for teenagers with cancer and the other (BIRT) is raising money for Kent House, a brain injury service attended by Harry’s friend Rupert.

About TCT

Today, six teenagers will hear the words “you have cancer”. Six will hear it tomorrow and six the day after. Teenage Cancer Trust is dedicated to improving the lives of these young people by building specialist units in NHS hospitals.

In order to achieve our goal of giving every young person with cancer access to a facility, we need to build another 14 units.

Each costs £2 million to build. We desperately need your help. Half the funds raised from Harry’s Marathon will go towards our planned unit for Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.

About BIRT

Harry’s friend Rupert suffered a serious brain injury as a result of a car crash in 1996. He is now supported at Kent House - one of the services provided by The Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust (BIRT). BIRT is a leading European provider of specialist brain injury rehabilitation, helping people to regain lost skills and independence following traumatic brain injury.

These skills are things that we all take for granted such as making a cup of tea or as in Rupert’s case, playing a musical instrument. 1 million people will go to hospital each year with a head injury. Around 20,000 will need long-term care. We’ve got big plans to make Kent House and our other services even better places for people like Rupert so they can live the lives they deserve.

With your help, we will also be able to buy and set up a training centre, where people who can’t work in the usual settings can learn skills and be paid for them. Half the funds raised by Harry’s efforts in the Marathon will go towards enhancing Kent House and other BIRT services to help Rupert and others move closer towards independence.
